SCHOOLS AND OTHER INSTITUTIONS CALENDAR – 2012
The school calendar is set out below. The dates are set by theMinistry of Education and Sports and the Ministry encourages schools to followthis calendar. No holiday teaching is permitted in any institution.
The dates indicated may only be varied after obtaining writtenpermission on an individual basis from the Permanent Secretary onrecommendations of the Director of Education and Sports. For more informationvisit the Ministry of Education and Sports website.
NOTE
i. This calendar does not include dates for Private andPublic Universities. Their dates are determined by the individual universities.
ii. The days recorded on this calendar include public holidays and weekends
iii. The number of weeks in the semester cycle are based on a 7 days working week

Note
i.
End of Term III/Year 1, UBTEB Exams.
UBTEB Exams calendar shall be followed.
ii.
Term I for S.1, year I for
Technical/Farm Schools and Community Polytechnics will start on 13th February 2012.
iii.
Classes
must start at 8:00 am and end not later than 5:00pm every day. Districts/City Inspectors of Schools are
requested to ensure that schools comply.
iv.
Term I for S.5 and year 1 Technical/Vocational Institutes
will start on 20th
February 2012.
v.
Wastage and loss of teaching and
learning time at the beginning and end of term must be stopped. Lessons should start promptly and terms
should not be cut short without clearance from my office.
vi.
All schools, especially boarding schools,
should designate only ONE DAY a term as a visiting day.
vii.
All Headteachers of Boarding
Secondary Schools especially those in Kampala, Wakiso and Mukono districts
should ensure that they stagger the starting dates a week earlier than the
official opening dates and also stagger the days for end of term. This is aimed at eliminating the
inconveniences caused every beginning and end of term to parents and schools.
viii.
All open days for primary schools
shall be set by individual schools during second term.
ix.
Parents and other stakeholders should
be sensitized on the School Calendar.
